Bark is running a blog series for two weeks called Bad TV Fortnight. I’ve had a blast reading about my fellow “Barkers” guilty pleasures, which includes Doogie Howser, The A Team, Gossip Girls, The Simpsons, Dual Survival and so many more.
Today it’s my turn. Hop over to Bark to read about my addiction to Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva.
If you’re not familiar with the show, here’s the premise: Aspiring model Deborah “Deb” Dobkins dies on the way to an audition for The Price Is Right and a mix-up at the gates of Heaven sends size-one Deb into size-sixteen lawyer Jane Bingum’s body. New Jane has Deb’s personality and memories, including the caloric count of every food and the current couture of every designer, combined with Old Jane’s intelligence and legal expertise.
Everything about the show, the soap opera plot elements, the focus on girls loving fashion, and the shallow way the story deals with serious and complex problems should turn me off watching. And yet, I can not get enough of Brooke Elliot’s portrayal of Jane Bingum. Watching a plus-sized character strut her stuff as if she looks—and more importantly feels—as sexy as someone of a much smaller size is empowering.
Come join our conversation on Bark. So far the comments have been about body issues, women’s portrayal in the media, and guilty pleasures. I would love to hear your thoughts.

If you’re not already familiar with the fabulous Fantasy, Futuristic, and Paranormal chapter of RWA, head over to their blog and/or website to check out what great resources they offer.
I’m on the blog today, talking about character voice and how a dear critique partner made me realize it was about more than just using different swear words for different characters.

I’m typing frantically to finish revisions in time for Cherry Adair’s Finish The Damn Book Challenge.
I did take a break for a little while and popped up on Bark to blog about this Huffington Post article, which describes a scientific study of what happens in your brain while reading Jane Austen.
Jane Austen and science! Two of my favorite things in the world.
Head over to Bark to read more about why everyone should read Jane.

I thought my next post would be about the fantastic Rose City Spring Intensive I attended last weekend. That’s going to have to wait because I was tagged for the Lucky 7 game and my competitive side refuses to not rise to the challenge.
Fantabulous author Brooke Moss tagged me for this game, and here are the rules:
1.) Go to your current WIP…
2.) Go to the 77th page…
3.) Go to the 7th line…
4.) Copy and paste the next 7 lines…
5.) Tag 7 other writers on Twitter or Facebook to play the game with you.
Here’s my entry from my current work in progress, VALHALLA’S KING:
“Your skin is intact and you don’t have a concussion, so it’s just a swelling. It should go down in a couple of days.”
“If you’re a doctor, why don’t you work in a hospital?”
Irja’s face closed down even more than its normal poker-face demeanor. “I used to work in a hospital, but my work is here now.”
With so many of her own, Anya respected secrets. She still wanted to figure how Irja was different and how many people her “we” included, but she knew she wasn’t going to get any more answers out of the tall woman.
Alright, so I went with what was 7 lines in my manuscript, not on this blog, plus finished the last sentence so it wouldn’t end in the middle.
Thanks for tagging me Brooke, I’m off to Twitter and Facebook to find my 7 victims…ehr…writer friends.
Game on to: Holly Williams Doering, Jere Unalonis Jaline, Erin Karakas Dodge, Tamara Morgan, Griffin Asher, Jamie Leigh Hansen, and Teresa Brown Woodworth.

How awesome is this?!
Joyce Lamb, award winning romantic suspense author and USA Today copy-editor, has started a great romance blog at the paper’s website.
She’s got seven other romance readers and writers helping her out and so far, I’m loving what she’s been blogging.
Here’s the opening of the first blog:
Romance novels rock.
Romance readers rock.
Romance writers rock.
I’m with you Joyce, so with you! I’ll definitely add Happy Ever After to my reading list.
